3D and 360° photography are both solutions that help you showcase your products in an immersive way – but they are not necessarily the same. 3D and 360°-photography are both unique and independently exciting ways to share product details and information. If you are looking for a way to share your products with your customers through an exciting and engaging way, and you’re looking for a way to promote your business and shine a light on your products and services, both of these are great options. So, what’s the difference you might ask? We’re glad you asked, so let us tell you!
Here at Tulfa, we offer both 3D and 360° photography solutions. Take a look at the main differences below:
What is Spin Photography?
Spin Photography is a technique by which a series of photos give the impression of an object rotating. It consists of a series of still images, typically 24 to 72 that we call a spinset. The spinset is then stitched together to rotate around the entire image. Simply put — as the name states — the image “spins.”
What is 360° Spin Photography?
360° spin photography is a method of photographing objects, where a camera is placed at the base of a turntable and is rotated at a constant speed of around one revolution per second. The camera is taking atleast 24-36 images of the object at 15-degree increments.
Spinning 3D photos are often used in advertising to give shoppers a look at the product from all angles. A single row of images – anywhere from 24 to 36 – is often adequate to give a lifelike impression of the item, especially if the thing itself has no external features to examine. If a higher vantage point isn’t a necessity, this is often the best choice, as the 360° spin photos give a full view of the product.
Products that benefit the most from this are CPG products like cans and glass bottles. Cans are the perfect example of products that need 360° spin photography to showcase the nutritional facts, important ingredients and other crucial product information. Moreover, the intricate details of their products such as cans sizes and configurations can be shown through 360° spin photography.
What is 3D Spin Photography?
3D Spin Photography, also known as 360 degree photography, is a technique used to showcase a product in the most lifelike way possible. This technique is helpful for products that have side details or top details that the customer might want to see. The camera moves up and over the product, capturing a 360 view of the sides, the top and the bottom of the product.
Up-close, 360-degree photos are a great way to show the details of your product. They give your customers the most lifelike impression of it — as if they were holding it in their hands.
3D photography is not only a means of enhancing the details or product – it is also a great way to showcase products and make them look attractive without any additional editing. This is especially true for products in the automotive and footwear industries.
What is an Animated 3D Spin?
Animation is a great way to show how customers would interact with a product, including its parts, in a more real time setting. It shows the detail of a product through photography or videos. It also gives customers a better understanding of how a product works in real life. The use of animation is limitless. Through animation, the movement of product’s parts, or a series of images of the product’s parts together are displayed.
The way in which a product moves can be as important as how it looks. Products can open and close, expand and condense, or configure and dismantle. There are infinite ways to use movement to highlight the details and features that convey everything about the product.
We’ve had hundreds of products that have been chosen to be part of the Tulfa studio, and the products always end up being extremely exciting to work on!
How Many Photos Per Row?
The number of images per row in a spin will have a large impact on the user experience. More images per row, like 48 – 72 images, will result in a smooth and clear rotation of your product. But, could greatly impact load times on your website, frustrating your customers as they wait for images to download. Less images per row, like 8 – 18 images, will cost less and have a faster download time on your website, but will result in a jerky and uneven spin. This will give your customers dissatisfied.
Our recommendation is an ideal 24-36 images per row for a smooth and seamless rotation and acceptable download speed.
How Does Spin Photography Work with CGI Models?
Advanced CGI 3D models can be used in e-commerce to display products in your own product listings. CGI models are becoming more popular for brands and retailers to showcase their products. CGI 3D models provide a full, 3-dimensional view with scale and can be created virtually without the product on-site. This also allows the 3D object to be placed in an augmented reality or virtual reality (AR/VR) environment. Our solution is cost-effective. What’s more, because of its scalability, it’s also easy to implement for large numbers of SKUs, which results in higher profits for our clients.
